Russian malware steals data from Ukrainian troops' phones
Discovered by Ukraine's security agency, the new malware prompted a warning from the FBI, CISA, and others.
A new malware campaign targeting Android devices used by Ukrainian military personnel has been exposed by Ukraine's security agency and confirmed in a joint report from international cybersecurity agencies including the FBI, CISA, and the NSA. The malware, dubbed "Infamous Chisel," was deployed by Sandworm, a Russian state-sponsored cyber group linked to the Kremlin. The malware scans for and steals sensitive data, including files and network information, posing significant threats to Ukraine's military operations. The discovery has prompted urgent calls for international cooperation to mitigate Russian cyber activities, as the malware's capabilities extend to collecting traffic data, monitoring networks, and stealing a mix of commercial and military-specific application information.
