NATO ships build maritime interoperability, strengthen partnership with Algeria

ALGIERS, Algeria – Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group Two (SNMCMG2) consisting of an Italian flagship ITS Stromboli and Italian Minehunter ITS Numana conducted a port visit in Algiers from Aug. 21 to 24.

Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group Two (SNMCMG2), consisting of an Italian flagship and minehunter, conducted a four-day port visit in Algiers, Algeria to strengthen maritime partnership and interoperability. The visit included a series of cultural and recreational activities organized by the Algerian Navy, as well as official receptions and lectures on Naval Mine Warfare. Both nations emphasized the importance of their collaboration for maritime security in the Mediterranean Sea and stability in North Africa. The visit serves as part of ongoing efforts to develop military dialogue and promote cooperation between NATO and Algeria, which has been a part of NATO's Mediterranean Dialogue Programme since 2000. The engagement highlights NATO's broader strategy for enhancing security in the Mediterranean region through cultural exchange and joint training exercises.
