Don’t Expect Navy Robots In South China Sea Anytime Soon, CNO Says
The US Navy has been an early adopter of autonomous technologies and artificial intelligence, arguably more than any of the US service branches. However, as the Navy was the first to adopt these technologies, they were also the first to run into mistakes and setbacks. Mistakes such as the X-47B strike fighter program that was deemed too expensive and not stealthy enough, and the large unmanned underwater vehicle program that was over budget and over schedule.
In an effort to iron out mistakes and setbacks such as these, as well as any others that may arise, US Navy Admiral Michael Gilday stated, ‘We're learning a ton but the next place I scale that is not going to be to the South China Sea. We have more work to do in terms of learning how we bring those technologies together,’
