U.S. set to further tighten chipmaking exports to China, Bloomberg reports

The Biden administration is making efforts to tighten restrictions on the export of semiconductor manufacturing equipment to China. US companies have been briefed by the government, and an announcement on the new controls is expected next month.

The new export controls are expected to have some level of coordination with the Dutch and Japanese governments. The Dutch government has already announced that it will join the US’s broad slate of semiconductor export controls in some capacity, and trilateral negotiations have been ongoing. The US’s stated goal with its own October 2022 export controls is to cut off Chinese military modernization from advanced computing and AI technologies.
