General Atomics signs 3D printing agreement with automotive-focused startup Divergent

United States-based defense company General Atomics is set to announce a new agreement with commercial automotive 3D printing company Divergent Technologies. General Atomics’ goal is to use Divergent’s additive manufacturing capabilities to automate the development of existing uncrewed system designs.

A small uncrewed aerial system (UAS), which would typically take months to develop, can be laid out in mere hours using state-of-the-art additive manufacturing technology. A cut in the time required to produce UAS will allow General Atomics to keep up with the increasing global demand for such systems. Payloads, of course, will still require traditional assembly methods.
