BAE Systems autonomous rigid inflatable boat awarded Lloyd’s Register Unmanned Marine Systems Certification
Lloyd’s Register Unmanned Marine Systems Certification - a structured framework for providing regulatory assurances - is awarded to BAE Systems’ Autonomous Pacific Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB). The United Kingdom-based defense company’s vessel is the first to achieve this certification.
The RIB was developed for the Royal Navy through funding from the NavyX autonomy and lethality accelerator program. Its certification signifies that its capabilities have been tested and its safety and operability confirmed. Its mission scope includes force protection and anti-piracy, persistent intelligence gathering, and maritime security. Such certifications may be sought after as private enterprises ramp up their efforts to develop and field autonomous systems for defense organizations.
