NATO to publish first C-UAS doctrine this year
NATO is set to unveil its first doctrine for counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UASs) this year. This doctrine will establish guidelines for military standardization and operations against UASs. The document, of high importance, will not only guide member nations on how to plan and implement C-UAS missions but will also highlight the strategic landscape. Claudio Palestini, a senior advisor for NATO, informed Janes that a draft of this document would be shared with member countries in October. It's anticipated to be ratified by the end of the year, although this could vary based on feedback from countries. Palestini outlined several key strategic recommendations, including the integration of C-UAS into broader air defense, treating it as a multidomain solution, and continually innovating to address the rapidly changing threats. The doctrine's suggestions will undergo testing along with operational-based C-UAS trials.
