US Army offers up to $200,000 for a secure autonomous operating system
The U.S. Army is soliciting proposals from small businesses for the development of an advanced and secure operating system to bolster its autonomy software library. This initiative aims to enhance the Army’s Robotic Technology Kernel and Robotic Operating System, fostering improved performance and security for self-directed vehicles and equipment. Nicole Fox, the Army SBIR Program’s portfolio manager, highlighted the potential of a high-assurance kernel in ensuring the security and reliability of various autonomous systems, from vehicles to the Internet of Things. As an incentive, the Army Small Business Innovation Research program is offering Phase I contract awards up to $200,000, with potential for a subsequent Phase II contract worth up to $1.9 million. Proposals can be submitted from Aug. 24 to Sept. 26.
