US Army Modernisation: A Mid-Term Report

The United States Army’s modernization efforts enter a pivotal year with the arrival of 2023. Innovations in, among other areas, automation, autonomy, artificial intelligence, robotics, and uncrewed systems top the list of priorities.

The Army’s integration of emerging technologies like AI with hardware includes efforts such as the Robotic Combat Vehicle (RCV) program and a Future Tactical Uncrewed Aerial System (FTUAS). Going forward, the Army's goal is to maintain the ‘momentum’ it is currently experiencing in its modernization efforts while also ‘projecting realism.’ The road is expected to be a bumpy one.
