DSEI 2025: Sea Dagger enhances UK Commando force projection through vehicle-carrying design.
At DSEI 2025, Leidos unveiled the Sea Dagger, a next-generation Commando Insertion Craft developed for the Royal Navy under the UK Commando Force programme, designed to combine high speed (over 40 knots), long-range endurance, modular mission systems, vehicle delivery, and autonomous capabilities within a single platform. Intended to deliver 24 medium surface craft for deploying commando teams, vehicles, and combat loads over extended distances, the Sea Dagger integrates advanced sensors, command-and-control systems, and weaponry while emphasising resilience in contested environments. Aligning with AUKUS Pillar 2 goals on maritime autonomy and the UK Strategic Defence Review’s focus on rapid deployment, it represents a shift from traditional landing craft to agile, multi-role vessels capable of launching from farther offshore, operating autonomously, and sustaining missions under attack—signalling a broader transformation in amphibious warfare and naval design thinking.
