UK to Deploy Military Instructors and Engineers to Ukraine Within a Week of Ceasefire, The Telegraph Reports
The United Kingdom is preparing to send its first military instructors and engineers to Ukraine within a week of a ceasefire, with plans to expand the mission to several hundred personnel to help rebuild Ukraine’s Armed Forces, The Telegraph reported on August 17.
Previously, Prime Minister Keir Starmer had previously signaled readiness to deploy British troops to enforce a ceasefire along the front line between Russian and Ukrainian forces. That plan has since been shelved.
Instead, London is now considering a large-scale deployment of instructors and engineers once active hostilities and shelling are halted.
“The first deployments are expected to take place within a week of a ceasefire, with the UK presence ramping up in the weeks after that.,” the report says.
The development comes as French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, during a virtual meeting of leaders of the Coalition of the Willing on August 17, confirmed their readiness to deploy troops to Ukraine once hostilities come to an end.
