PH to produce drones, unmanned defense vehicles
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines will soon produce its own defense assets showcasing Filipino engineering and robotics starting with high-powered drones and Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs) to boost the asymmetric warfare capability of the Philippine Navy (PN).
On Wednesday, the PN launched the very first Self-Reliant Defense Posture (SRDP) Forum, an event supporting Republic Act 12024 signed last October 2024 promoting the local development of the country’s defense assets intended for both military and commercial purposes.
Capt. Gregory Fabic, assistant chief of Naval Staff for Civil-Military Operations and acting Commander of the Civil-Military Operations Group, said the PN is primarily focused on the production of drones and USVs to help in tactical missions, minimizing the use of human resources while boosting the scope of various military operations such as search and rescue/retrieval, reconnaissance and surveillance missions.
