France Taps Paris Startup to Deliver 1,000 AI-Enabled Drones

Paris-based defense tech startup Harmattan AI has secured a multi-million-dollar contract from France’s arms procurement agency to deliver 1,000 AI-enabled micro-drones to the French Army between October and December. These 1.8-kilogram autonomous quadcopters—featuring electro-optical cameras, optional infrared sensors, a 2-kilometer range, and 40-minute endurance—will support soldier training and operational prep, including during the Orion 2026 multinational exercise. Founded in April 2024, Harmattan AI was chosen for its low unit cost, rapid production, and superior technical performance, beating out many European competitors. The contract reflects a growing shift toward AI-driven, software-defined military systems and marks a major milestone for the startup just over a year after its launch.
