Making Satellite Science Simple: Guardian Brings Space Force Story to Congress, Public
Capt. Drake Williams, a 27-year-old acquisitions program manager at Space Systems Command (SSC), plays a key role in advancing the U.S. Space Force’s (USSF) use of artificial intelligence and immersive technologies to support its mission. Representing the Battle Management Command, Control, Communications and Space Intelligence (BMC3I) office at the USSF Day on the Hill in Washington, D.C., Williams helped raise awareness about the Space Force’s capabilities and challenges. He leads the I3E program, which builds cloud infrastructure to test and implement AI tools that enhance space operations, while maintaining a "human-in-the-loop" approach to ensure human oversight. Williams also showcased an augmented reality tool that visualizes the space domain using a HoloLens headset to illustrate the growing complexity and congestion of Earth's orbit. Emphasizing the importance of SSC’s acquisitions, including critical systems like GPS, he likens his work to procuring military-grade equipment tailored to unique needs. Ultimately, Williams describes BMC3I as the vital infrastructure that enables data flow and command control across the Space Force’s operations.
