DHS S&T Launches Next Phase of Industry Competition to Develop Revolutionary Identity Verification Tech

The Department of Homeland Security's Science and Technology Directorate (DHS S&T) has launched the second phase of the Remote Identity Validation Rally (RIVR), a collaborative challenge inviting the tech industry to enhance the accuracy and security of identity document verification. Building on the 2024 Remote Identity Validation Technology Demonstration (RIVTD), this new phase aims to combat identity fraud in areas like government services, banking, and social media. Supported by partners such as TSA, HSI, and NIST, the initiative seeks to address crimes linked to ID fraud—such as human trafficking and identity theft—by encouraging the development of user-friendly, robust technologies. DHS officials highlight the strong industry interest and the importance of public-private collaboration in securing digital identity verification.
