Bosch CEO warns Europe against regulating ‘itself to death’ on AI
Bosch CEO Stefan Hartung has cautioned that Europe risks falling behind in the global race for artificial intelligence due to excessive and vague regulation, which he argues stifles innovation and makes the region less attractive for investment. Speaking at a tech conference in Stuttgart, Hartung urged lawmakers to focus on essential regulatory frameworks rather than overregulating and potentially hindering technological progress. Bosch, a leading AI patent holder in Europe, plans to invest €2.5 billion in AI development by 2027, targeting areas like autonomous driving and industrial efficiency. His warning comes amid increased international competition, particularly from the U.S., which recently pledged up to $500 billion for AI infrastructure, prompting the EU to announce a €200 billion initiative in response.
