CATS Warrior Drone Unveiled As Drone Warfare Takes Center Stage
India has taken a major step toward self-reliant defence with the unveiling of the CATS Warrior, an advanced unmanned combat drone developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) as part of its Combat Air Teaming System (CATS) program. Designed to work alongside manned fighter jets like the LCA Tejas, this stealthy "loyal wingman" can autonomously perform high-risk missions, including surveillance, electronic warfare, and precision strikes, while keeping pilots out of harm’s way. Showcased at Aero India 2025, the drone features cutting-edge capabilities such as manned-unmanned teaming, stealth infiltration, and smart payloads. Its strategic relevance was underscored by past and recent conflicts, such as the Balakot airstrike and Operation Sindoor, where India’s robust drone defence neutralised over 400 hostile drones without casualties. The CATS Warrior marks a pivotal shift in India’s defence strategy toward AI-driven, autonomous warfare, reinforcing the country's readiness for future combat scenarios.
