EU defence readiness: Council launches 6th wave of new PESCO projects
Published on May 28, 2025
The Council has approved the sixth wave of projects under the EU’s Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO), adding 11 new collaborative defence initiatives and bringing the total to 75. This move reflects the EU’s continued commitment to strengthening its military capabilities in line with strategic goals set in March 2025. The new projects cover a wide range of areas, including land, air, maritime, advanced technologies like quantum systems and directed energy weapons, and improved training and medical facilities. These efforts aim to close defence capability gaps, enhance interoperability among member states’ armed forces, and support the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base.
