Largest ever UK defence AI trial conducted across land, sea and air
The UK has completed its largest multi-domain AI trial, integrating land, sea, and air assets to enhance defence capabilities. Conducted at Portland Harbour, the trial involved around 200 scientists, military personnel, industry partners, and international allies, including the US and Australia. It focused on developing and validating AI technologies to improve maritime surveillance, threat detection, and decision-making for the Royal Navy, as well as target recognition and sensor data processing for the Royal Air Force. The initiative supports the UK government’s Plan for Change and defence spending goals, aiming to strengthen national security, reduce cognitive load on personnel, and provide long-term operational advantages through human-AI collaboration.
