Changing strategic environment on agenda at meeting of EU Military Chiefs

The EU Military Committee (EUMC) convened at the Chiefs of Defence (CHODs) level on 15 May 2025 in Brussels to address the evolving geopolitical landscape and shape the future of European Defence. Chaired by General Robert Brieger, with participation from EU Member States and key figures like Kaja Kallas and Andrius Kubilius, the meeting focused on the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy, the implementation of the "White Paper for European Defence – Readiness 2030," continued support for Ukraine amid Russian aggression, and maritime security operations such as ATALANTA and ASPIDES. The discussions produced strategic guidance for EU leadership, emphasizing the importance of readiness, collaboration, and stability in an increasingly unpredictable global environment. General Brieger, whose transformative tenure concludes this May, highlighted the critical role of the EUMC in supporting EU defence and security objectives.
