
Danger On The Digital Silk Road Warns Nvidia

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has reportedly warned former President Trump at Mar-a-Lago that U.S. chip restrictions on China may be benefiting Huawei, as China could respond by expanding AI datacentres globally under its Belt and Road Initiative using Huawei chips instead of Nvidia’s. Nvidia is concerned that this “Digital Silk Road” could spread Chinese tech standards, surveillance, and regulations. Critics may view Nvidia's warning as self-serving, especially after the company announced a $5.5 billion hit to profits due to compliance with new U.S. export rules. The tension comes as Huawei unveiled its new 910C chip, a direct rival to Nvidia’s H20.
