India clears ₹63,000 crore mega deal to buy 26 Rafale Marine fighter aircraft from France
India has cleared a mega defence deal to acquire 26 Rafale Marine fighter jets from France, estimated at over ₹63,000 crore, according to ANI. The deal, estimated to be India's biggest fighter jet deal, is expected to be officially signed later this month during the visit of French Defence Minister Sébastien Lecornu, according to news reports.
The agreement, cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will lead to the Indian Navy receiving 22 single-seater and four twin-seater Rafale-M jets.
The package includes extensive fleet maintenance support, logistics, training for personnel, and a significant push for indigenous manufacturing through offset obligations.
According to The Times of India, the contract also covers upgrades, equipment, and spares for the 36 Rafale aircraft already in service with the Indian Air Force (IAF). India and France signed a ₹59,000 crore contract in September 2016.
