S. Korean defense giants invest in AI for unmanned warfare

South Korean defense companies, including Hanwha Aerospace, KAI, and HD Hyundai, are increasing investments in AI-powered military technology to enhance unmanned warfare systems. Hanwha Aerospace has invested in U.S.-based Shield AI, which develops autonomous flight software for drones and fighter jets. KAI is advancing AI-driven combat systems, including a fully autonomous AI-piloted combat system by 2030, while also investing in companies like GenGenAI and Funzin to boost its AI capabilities. HD Hyundai is collaborating with Palantir Technologies to develop unmanned surface vessels for maritime defense.
