Hyperspectral Image Compression Techniques
Published on January 28, 2025
One significant area of research involves the development of algorithms that can compress hyperspectral images in real-time. For instance, a recent study presented a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) implementation of the CCSDS 123.0-B-2 standard, which achieves lossless and near-lossless compression of hyperspectral images. This implementation is notable for its speed, processing data at over 250 MHz, which is eight times faster than real-time for certain sensors[2]. The algorithm's design allows it to handle large datasets efficiently, making it suitable for on-board satellite applications.
