The U.S. Navy has awarded a significant modification to a previously announced contract to ensure continued support for the Trident II Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missile [SLBM] program. This new contract modification, effective for fiscal year 2025, is set to provide crucial technical services, program support, and engineering assessments to one of the U.S. military’s most critical strategic defense systems.

Systems Planning and Analysis Inc. [SPA], based in Alexandria, Virginia, will be responsible for delivering these services under the contract modification, valued at $7.5 million. The work is set to take place at multiple locations, including SPA’s facilities in Alexandria and at the Strategic Systems Programs [SSP] Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The tasks to be carried out under this agreement are vital to ensuring that the Trident II missile system remains operational and effective in safeguarding national security.

The contract modification covers a broad spectrum of work, including technical services, systems engineering, special studies, and program assessments. These services are intended to maintain and enhance the Trident II missile’s capabilities, ensuring its readiness as a key component of the U.S. Navy’s nuclear deterrence strategy.

Work on this contract is expected to continue through September 2025, with funding allocated for fiscal year 2025’s research, development, testing, and evaluation [RDT&E], as well as weapons procurement. With the significant role of the Trident II in the U.S. Navy’s strategic deterrence, this contract represents a critical step in maintaining the missile’s operational integrity as global tensions persist.
