
Heritage Foundation Suggests US Collaborate on Warships with Korean Shipbuilders

A U.S. think tank has suggested that the United States actively partner with Korean shipbuilders to improve its warship construction capabilities.
The Heritage Foundation, a leading U.S. think tank, recently recommended that the United States should enter into licensing agreements with Korean shipyards to produce warships in a report about the future of the AUKUS, an alliance among the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, according to industry reports on May 8.
“The United States is unable to satisfy congressional requirements for the size of naval fleets needed in the Pacific,” the Heritage Foundation said in a report, citing weapons shortages across the U.S. military. “Korea with its vast shipbuilding capabilities may help the United States close the gap (between congressional targets and actual ships that can be built).”
