New in 2024: Marine amphibious combat vehicle variants will arrive

The Marine Corps is set to receive new variants of the Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV) in early 2024, including a command and control version (ACV-C) and a separate model equipped with a 30 mm cannon (ACV-30). The ACV personnel variant has been in use since 2021, replacing the legacy Amphibious Assault Vehicle in service since the 1970s. Over 200 of these personnel variants were built by mid-2023, with 139 delivered to operational or training units. The ACV-C faced initial production delays due to testing and design issues, but these were resolved by July 2023. The ACV-30, also under production, is undergoing operational testing to finalize its design, with initial operational capability expected by mid-2026. However, Marines will continue using the older AAV for certain tasks until the new recovery variant (ACV-R) is operational, projected for late 2027 or early 2028.
