2024 will be a breakout year for delivery drones

In 2024, drone delivery is finally becoming mainstream, although not yet as common as traditional delivery vehicles. This progress follows the Federal Aviation Administration's recent authorization allowing some drone operators to fly beyond visual line of sight. Key companies like Amazon, Zipline, and Wing are expanding their drone delivery services. Amazon aims for 500 million drone deliveries annually by the decade's end and is introducing a new, quieter drone model. Zipline, known for delivering medical supplies in Africa, is deploying next-generation drones and expanding in the U.S., while Wing has completed over 350,000 deliveries, mainly in Australia, and is enhancing its delivery network with AI. Other companies are also growing their drone delivery operations. The FAA is developing standardized rules for these operations to ensure scalability and economic viability. Despite the initial excitement, the novelty of drone deliveries is expected to normalize quickly.
