Matternet to fly unprecedented BVLOS drone deliveries over Berlin

Matternet, a commercial drone systems developer, has been chosen to operate medical deliveries between hospitals and laboratories in Berlin, marking the first-ever beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) UAV flights over the city. The project, set to launch next year, will transport patient samples for Labor Berlin, Europe's largest group of hospital laboratories, using BVLOS operations approved by Germany's Federal Aviation Office. This initiative aims to significantly speed up the transport of lab samples, serving 30 hospitals and over 24,000 beds, including Charité and Vivantes. Matternet's BVLOS drones will replace some vehicles, reducing ground vehicle mileage and improving healthcare supply chain efficiency while lowering emissions.
