The UK Space Agency and Space Command have awarded a contract to UK company Spaceflux for Project Nyx Alpha, focused on developing and operating a new space domain awareness (SDA) sensor. The ground-based camera-telescope, to be located in Cyprus, aims to monitor objects in geostationary orbit (GEO), providing positional information on UK satellites. The sensor, valued at GBP500,000, is set to be delivered by the second quarter of 2024. Project Nyx Alpha is designed to enhance space situational awareness, mitigate collision risks, and safeguard critical assets, including the Skynet satellite system. The collected information can be shared with partner organizations and allies.
