FAVS 2023: UK to field Land GBAD C-sUAS capability by end of year

The UK is set to deploy a Land Ground-Based Air Defence (GBAD) counter-small unmanned aircraft system (C-sUAS) capability, starting with 225 SMASH Smart Weapon Sight (SLS) anti-drone fire-control systems for small arms in December. The project, led by Squadron Leader Hugo Piers Morris, aims to counter Class 1b and 1c unmanned aircraft systems (UASs) and includes electromagnetic DETECT systems, handheld radio frequency DEFEAT non-kinetic effectors, and man-portable systems. Future developments, funded by UK Defence Innovation, will involve mounted capabilities, hard-kill capability based on the Protector remote weapon system, and increased battlefield integration and automation.
