India initiates long-range surface-to-air missile programme

India has initiated the 'Project Kusha' program to develop long-range surface-to-air missile (LRSAM) systems for the Indian Air Force (IAF) in the initial design phase. These LRSAM systems, designed and developed by India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), aim to enhance the country's air defense capabilities by detecting and neutralizing various aerial threats, including stealth fighters, aircraft, ballistic and cruise missiles, precision-guided munitions, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at ranges of nearly 350 km, similar to the capabilities of the Russian S-400 Triumf air defense system recently inducted by the Indian Air Force.
