Britain unveils details on AI defense programs
Published on November 1, 2023
The British Defence Ministry has unveiled two artificial intelligence (AI) developments ahead of a global summit focusing on AI technology risks. The first development involved a beach-landing exercise in the English Channel, which used AI to gather data from various sensors, cameras, and participants' behaviour to enhance future defence-related AI capabilities. Several U.S. government organizations and industry participants were involved in the exercise. The second development is a new AI-powered helicopter support software tool called Motherlode, which analyzes historical data to predict equipment failures and improve maintenance for Royal Navy helicopters. The MoD is also exploring AI's potential use in other defence equipment.
