Navy Announces New Disruptive Capabilities Office

The Department of the Navy has unveiled the Disruptive Capabilities Office (DCO) to enhance warfighters' technological abilities in an ever-changing tech landscape. Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro announced the creation during the Naval Research Laboratory Centennial Exhibition, emphasizing its role in swiftly delivering innovative warfighting capabilities by leveraging existing and new systems and harnessing technology's rapid advancements. The DCO will collaborate with the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory’s Rapid Capabilities Office to address immediate and near-term needs, aiming for rapid integration of innovative solutions. Additionally, the office will contribute to the Replicator Initiative, striving to create autonomous systems at scale to deter China. This initiative involves close collaboration with the Defense Innovation Unit to accelerate the production and delivery of vital capabilities required by the Joint Force. The move aligns with the National Defense Science and Technology Strategy of 2023, emphasizing cybersecurity and enhanced warfighting capabilities in the cyber domain. Secretary Del Toro emphasized ongoing collaboration with sister services and strategic partners to maintain enduring advantages through technology and capability development.
