The US Navy has awarded Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) a $347 million contract for the production of nine small unmanned undersea vehicles (SUUVs) as part of the Lionfish system program, with the potential to expand to 200 vehicles over the next five years. Built upon HII's unmanned REMUS 300 platform, the Lionfish System represents a leap in naval undersea capabilities, offering adaptability, interoperability, and aligning with the Navy’s strategic undersea priorities. The system aims to enhance effectiveness against emerging threats through fully capable vehicles, reflecting the broader trend of integrating unmanned vehicles to enhance naval operations globally.
