Platoons to get counter-drone gear in two US Army divisions
The U.S. Army is intensifying its efforts to enhance its counter-drone capabilities amid a growing threat, extending from soldier education to deploying drone-killing trucks in Ukraine. The Army is equipping platoons with handheld and electronic-warfare anti-drone systems, with plans to extend the capability to the platoon level. Major General Sean Gainey of the Joint Counter-small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Office (JCO) mentioned the fielding of two divisions with counter-UAS capability, with intentions to integrate anti-drone education for all warfighters. Additionally, the Army aims to deploy the Mobile-Low, Slow, Small Unmanned Aircraft Integrated Defeat System (M-LIDS) to counter heavier drones and is exploring various counter-drone technologies, including high-powered microwaves and 30mm autocannons.
