Tech-fueled warfighting: targeting, movement and interactive barracks
Soldiers from the XVIII Airborne Corps, based in Fort Liberty, North Carolina, are increasingly integrated with cutting-edge technology to enhance readiness and responsiveness. Lt. Gen. Christopher Donahue discussed advancements including a rapid targeting system crucial for units that might be deployed globally on short notice. This is exemplified by the Scarlet Dragon program, a testbed for fusing targeting, data, and intelligence collection, which has evolved from version 1.0 to version 12.0, becoming faster with each update. In 2021, this system utilized artificial intelligence to scan vast areas for simulated targets. Additionally, the corps utilizes data analytics to monitor soldier movement patterns, reducing injury risks and optimizing training. Beyond combat, tech integration extends to daily life. At Fort Liberty, barracks have incorporated QR codes, allowing soldier check-ins and offering a direct feedback mechanism for quality-of-life concerns.
