Connect everything? Leaders need to get specific first

Brig. Gen. Luke Cropsey, the program executive officer of the Air Force’s integrated tech office, highlights the need for greater specificity in discussions about creating interconnected networks as part of the Pentagon’s "connect everything" vision, known as Combined Joint All Domain Command and Control (CJADC2). Cropsey oversees the development of the Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS), the Air Force's contribution to CJADC2, and stresses the importance of articulating operational outcomes and requirements. This focus on clarity is essential for engineers to build functional systems that can support mission-critical decisions. While connecting disparate elements in the network presents challenges, cross-service collaboration and the adoption of open-source communication standards show promise in realizing the vision of CJADC2.
