Navy stands up ‘Disruptive Capabilities Office’
Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro said the office will play a role in supporting the Pentagon's new Replicator initiative.
Secretary of the Navy, Carlos Del Toro, recently disclosed the establishment of a new Disruptive Capabilities Office (DCO). This office, along with a counterpart office in the Marine Corps, is devised to strengthen the Navy’s commitment to the 'Replicator initiative.' Previous reports from Breaking Defense hinted at the potential creation of the DCO, aiming to accelerate the deployment of crucial technologies to the operational fleet. Del Toro, speaking at a Pentagon ceremony, emphasized the role of the DCO in revolutionizing warfighting capabilities by leveraging both current and emerging technologies. He highlighted the DCO's mission of swift experimentation, prototyping, and collaboration across departments to address pressing capability shortfalls in the fleet. Concurrently, there is speculation about the possible disbandment of the Unmanned Task Force, though official confirmation is awaited. The DCO will further collaborate with the Marine Corps’ Rapid Capabilities Office and the Pentagon’s Defense Innovation Unit for the Replicator project, an ambitious venture initiated by Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks to mass-produce unmanned systems, particularly to counter threats from China.
