USAF solicits ‘extreme computing' technology prototypes
The US Air Force (USAF) is seeking emerging technology prototypes from the industry to advance the integration of 'extreme computing' systems into USAF operations. The call for prototypes, issued by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), encompasses various technical domains such as computational diversity, efficient computing architectures, machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI) in embedded systems, edge computing, nanocomputing, space computing, and robust algorithms. The AFRL has allocated USD 497 million for research and development (R&D) work, with individual awards ranging from USD 1 million to USD 3 million. The prototypes are intended to enhance system adaptability, autonomy, and intelligence across the USAF's C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) enterprise
