US Army Receives High-Energy Laser Weapon Prototypes

The US Army has delivered four Directed Energy Maneuver-Short Range Air Defense (DE M-SHORAD) prototypes to the 4th Battalion, 60th Air Defense Artillery Regiment at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. DE M-SHORAD, a 50-kilowatt laser weapon mountable on land vehicles, neutralizes aerial threats through electronic attack without explosions or loud noises. The deployment signifies a transformative milestone in the Army’s modernization campaign, providing a game-changing air missile defense system that offers both a deterrent and an effective weapon against relevant threats. Further testing and training are planned to ensure the system's employment by 2024.
