Leonardo and UK MOD’s flexible approach enhances future uncrewed capabilities
Leonardo and the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) have unveiled a mature concept for the Rotary Wing Uncrewed Air System (RWUAS) Technology Demonstrator, known as project 'Proteus,' at DSEI London 2023. This collaboration, part of the RWUAS Technology Demonstrator Programme, emphasizes conceptual maturity and agility, aiming to shape the future of uncrewed technologies. The design represents a cutting-edge, multi-role, 2-3 ton technology demonstrator with a single-main rotor concept. It will provide mission flexibility for frontline commands, including naval and land forces, and inform the Royal Navy's Future Maritime Aviation Force vision. The technology demonstrator is expected to fly by the middle of the decade, incorporating autonomy and automation into future technologies.
