T-14’s transmission issue may have thrown it off the battlefield

The T-14 Armata, Russia's advanced main battle tank, has been withdrawn from front-line deployments in Ukraine, according to official Russian state media. Although no specific reason was cited for the withdrawal, there have been recurring allegations, mostly from Russian bloggers, about reliability issues concerning the tank's engine transmission system. Despite boasting a powerful 1,500 horsepower engine and a state-of-the-art transmission system, the T-14 has faced technical issues including overheating and failure of its electronic control system. These issues, which came to light as early as 2020, reportedly remain unresolved. Apart from the engine issues, the T-14's thermal imaging systems have also been cited as problematic, particularly their susceptibility to electronic warfare. Reports suggest that these issues have led to reservations within the military about the tank's reliability and combat readiness. Despite the tank's initial promise and advanced features, these challenges have contributed to delays in production timelines and its full-scale deployment.
