Northern Ireland can be a testing centre for artificial intelligence in the UK, according to a group representing the software industry.
Northern Ireland is positioning itself as a hub for artificial intelligence (AI) research and development, according to The Software Alliance and local IT firms. Belfast-based Kainos is investing £10 million to advance generative AI in its operations, and the head of The Software Alliance, David Crozier, suggests that the region is an ideal testing ground for new AI technologies. Various sectors in Northern Ireland, including cybersecurity, medicine, and robotics, are already engaged in AI research. Despite the optimism, there are calls for updating employment law to keep pace with AI advancements and concerns about ethical and security aspects, such as algorithmic bias.
