Germany's Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment has contracted the HIS consortium—comprised of Helsing, Schönhofer Sales and Engineering, and IBM Deutschland—to develop an AI backbone for the Future Combat Air System (FCAS), a sixth-generation fighter jet. This development is a part of the broader Franco-German-Spanish FCAS initiative and aims to provide the German air force with advanced AI capabilities for military applications. The AI infrastructure is expected to enhance the jet's performance in complex operations and is considered crucial for the success of the FCAS program, which is slated to be operational by 2040.
