Russia building secret underwater barriers - UK intelligence
The barrier has been made to block drone boat attacks against the Crimean Bridge
UK Defence Intelligence reveals that Russia has constructed an underwater barrier made of submerged ships to protect the Crimean Bridge from Ukrainian Uncrewed Surface Vehicles (USV), commonly known as drone boats. The bridge serves as a crucial logistical and symbolic link between Russia and the annexed Crimean Peninsula. This move comes in the wake of a July attack by Ukrainian forces that caused damage to the road lanes leading up to the bridge. According to UK intelligence, Russia is implementing both passive and active defense measures—including air defense systems and smoke generators—in addition to the underwater barriers to fortify the bridge. The heightened security reflects Russia's heavy reliance on this strategic infrastructure for military logistics and also highlights the growing tension and military posturing between Russia and Ukraine.
