A German businessman, identified only as Waldemar W, has been arrested for allegedly supplying critical electrical components used in Russia's Orlan-10 drones deployed in the war against Ukraine. Waldemar, a German citizen of Russian origin, is suspected of violating Germany's foreign trade laws and is under investigation for evading EU sanctions. Authorities said that he ran two companies dealing in electronic components and had, over 26 instances between January 2020 and March 2023, exported items worth about €715,000 to a Russian military gear producer. Prosecutors claim he used third countries like Dubai and Lithuania, and dummy companies, to circumvent sanctions. The case brings attention to the growing scrutiny on western technology exports to Russia and efforts to evade sanctions amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
