Uncrewed autonomous vehicle in weapons fire test

Published on August 23, 2023

The Australian Army has successfully conducted its first test firing of a weapon system from an autonomous uncrewed armored vehicle during exercises. The test was carried out by the Army's Robotic and Autonomous Systems Implementation & Coordination Office (RICO) and involved various emerging technology projects, including drones, robots, and optionally crewed combat vehicles equipped with remote weapon systems. The demonstration showcased the capabilities of human-machine teams, with optionally crewed combat vehicles being remotely operated to engage enemy threats from a distance while ensuring the safety of soldiers. This advancement in autonomous technology is expected to revolutionize Army operations, improve decision-making, and reduce risk to soldiers.
