Published on August 13, 2023

Turkey has successfully conducted the inaugural test of its domestically developed probe rocket, a significant milestone in its space exploration endeavors. Created by defense and technology firm Roketsan, the rocket was launched from Iğneada in the Kırklareli province. This achievement aligns with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's ambitious 10-year space roadmap announced in 2021, which includes sending Turkish astronauts to the International Space Station and developing internationally viable satellite systems. The country's focus on space technologies also involves plans for lunar missions, collaboration with other nations on a spaceport, and the establishment of a global satellite technology brand. Turkey has previously completed flight tests for a hybrid probe rocket system intended for its crewless spacecraft, which is anticipated to be ready by the end of 2023, contributing to its goal of becoming a prominent player in the space domain.
