Indian Navy seeks to boost defense ties with Saudi Arabia
India's efforts to enhance defense cooperation with Saudi Arabia were underscored as the Indian Navy's missile destroyer INS Chennai visited Jeddah from August 3 to 5, conducting a passage exercise with the Royal Saudi Naval ship HMS Al-Jubail. This engagement follows Saudi naval cadets' training in India earlier this year and signifies the strengthening defense ties between the two nations. The exercises included tactical maneuvers, seamanship evolutions, and communication drills, promoting mutual trust, operational understanding, and interoperability. This deepening cooperation aligns with their shared roles as representatives of the Global South and their navigation of a changing global order. The expanding defense interactions and growing proximity between Indian and Saudi Arabian forces are expected to extend into economic ties as well, fostering mutual trust and encouraging investment.
